The thirty and first week

31 Weeks down…1 more week to go…this week the focus is the lessons that have come from this adventure, 1 for each week…

31.  Elyse now knows how I felt when I hit 200 pounds.
30.  Maternity shirts are made for only one baby inside you, if you double that they don’t fit anymore
See the shirt doesn't even cover the belly any more
29.  2 babies = 2 times everything (pain, discomfort, size, joy, baby kicks, bladder hits, etc…)
28.  Hospital food is (in hospital kitchen workers words) “Blech”.
27.  Beds with buttons are fun for little boys.
26.  Little boys have the best outlook on life (Gotta wear moms inflatable ankle bracelets).
Two boy + Two ankle Bracelets = 2 legs per bracelet
25.  Different nurses have different opinions on what is important enough to call the doctor on his day off (according to the doctor nothing is that important… I agree, give the guy a day off).
24.  If packed appropriately, a mini fridge can hold A LOT of food.
23.  PIC lines are better than IV ports.
22.  Two little boys running around a hospital being obnoxious makes more people smile than you would think.
21.  Surprise enchilada’s (not enchilada surprise where you don’t know what’s in it, but someone brings you enchilada’s AS a surprise) and homemade chicken noodle soup can change the direction of a pregnant woman’s attitude quickly.
20.  Sometimes…SOMETIMES… having someone there to move your legs for you is worth being married to someone who tells bad jokes.
19.  You can call it whatever you want, but chicken soup with a biscuit placed on top is NOT chicken pot pie.
18.  When 5 year olds push wheel chairs the walls had better watch out.
17.  Despite the prodding you do, 3 and 5 year olds will want to choose your babies ninja turtle names.
16.  You can put a dent in a hospital bed by laying in it in the same position for 7 weeks, even when it is the “super duper, you’re going to be here a long time, extra nice, comfortable” mattress.
15.  There will always be that “one nurse” when you’ve been in the hospital extended periods of time.
14.  American Ninja Warrior is on Monday nights at 8 PM Las Vegas time.  Don’t interrupt during hot shirtless guy time.
13.  No one takes your man card for carrying a pink hand bag of dirty clothes in a hospital and you are going to the third floor.
12.   Kanab is full of really really top notch people.
11.  It appears that having twins is a pre-requisite for working at this hospital as a nurse.
10.  Sometimes comfort is the most important thing.
9.  Shirts covering pregnant bellies makes pregnant bellies look smaller than they really are.
Honestly, look at the size of that thing.  We passed volleyball and basketball size and went for exercise ball size.
8.  Family support makes all the difference in the world.
7.  God has a plan and we’re part of it.
6.  Priesthood blessings truly work.
5.  Hard times make families stronger.
4.  God has a time line and we don’t understand it.
3.  Power of prayer and fasting.
2.  Choosing the perspective of optimism makes life more bearable.
1.  Sometimes when you are writing a blog post about having one week left, your wife thinks she peed her pants, it turns out that her water actually broke and babies are on their way.

Mom and the Babies
